Practical Piano Pedagogy Course
Join us for a closer look at piano technique and elementary through intermediate repertoire from the Baroque to Contemporary periods. Each class will consist of a mini lecture and a Zoom master class. Ten to fifteen participants will be chosen on a rotating basis to perform previously chosen material appropriate to each class. We will conclude with a prerecorded Zoom recital.
For those unable to attend, all classes will be recorded and made available on Dropbox. The early bird price is $350 before October 1 and $380 thereafter. Classes will begin on Tuesday, October 22 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. and continue weekly at the same time.

Scales and arpeggios. How many ways can we play and practice them?
Exercises. Piano gym, having fun warming up.
Etudes. Czerny, Cramer, Moszkowski, and others.
Introduction to polyphony. Bartok, Telemann, Handel, Scarlatti.
Bach. From Anna Magdalena Notebook through Little Preludes, French Suites, and Inventions.
Introduction to the Classical era. The dances of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, and variations.
Sonatinas and Sonatas. Clementi, Mozart, Beethoven, Diabelli, and others. Storytelling and orchestration in the Sonata Allegro form.
Romantic expression and small miniatures. Schumann, Tcherepin, Maikapar, Tchaikovsky, and Schubert.
Chopin. Discovering his Polish roots; the poetic freedom of his easiest repertoire.
Jon George. Fascinating world of imaginative small masterpieces in early elementary repertoire.
Bela Bartok. Mastering articulation, dynamics, pedaling, and expression in contemporary musical language.
Mastering performances. Preparation for the final performance.
