The course is designed for both teachers and performers. Topics will include:

• understanding the relationship between freedom and rules in the Baroque era;

• hidden meanings of intervals and other Baroque rhetorical figures;

• the “Well-Tempered Pianist”;

• the importance of Baroque forms;

• a Baroque dance class with Katherine Turocy (New York);

• a class on ornamentation and performance practice with harpsichordist and Baroque musician Marek Toporowski (Poland); and

• how to teach polyphony, Bach’s most beloved expression.
